In a crowded global marketplace, design research offers a new perspective and a route to more compelling products that stand a greater chance of commercial success. We believe there are four important components to the way that we do design research that makes for successful products.
Researchers that know design
To inform the design of products, you need researchers and strategists that know design and that understand the questions that need to be answered to inform product development. Our team are passionate about design, they all have backgrounds in design, and are immersed in a design studio every day.
Integrated design team
Our research doesn’t end with a report. It is fully integrated into the design process and drives the development of real products. We don’t see it as an isolated activity, it takes a multi-disciplinary team to conduct research that is truly actionable and effective.
Bringing people into the design process
We invite users and stakeholders into the design process as experts of their own experience, not just at the end of the process, but also at the very start and throughout the journey. Drawing from a wide range of tools and approaches, we explore what people do, think and feel now, and help them to visualise possible futures.
Prototype any experience
To test a new idea, you need to get it into people’s hands and into their heads. This means having the ability to prototype any experience from a digital interface to a full-scale train mockup. We use our on-site prototyping facilities to mock up ideas large and small, increasing in fidelity as we go. This gives our research sessions meaningful stimulus to inspire, test and learn from.
